Mike leads the firm’s Workers’ Compensation practice in Virginia and defends carriers and self-insured employers in workers’ compensation matters. Mike has practiced before the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission for his entire career. Before joining the firm, Mike devoted the bulk of his practice to defending the Uninsured Employers’ Fund on behalf of the Office of the Attorney General, affording him with meaningful trial and appellate experience. In October 2020, Mike prevailed before the Supreme Court of Virginia, the highest court in the Commonwealth. Representing a school system in a workers’ compensation case, Mike secured a rare unanimous reversal, setting precedent that limits a carrier’s liability in cases where a claimant alleges injuries to multiple body parts. While Mike focuses his practice on defending workers’ compensation claims, Mike also represents individuals, businesses, and insurers in the defense of general liability claims.
